Corporate Income Tax 2025:

Key Facts to Save Thousands

Singapore’s corporate income tax rate may be a competitive 17%, but if you think that’s the end of the story, think again. For Year of Assessment (YA) 2025, there are new updates and generous schemes that could help your business save even more.

Beyond the headline rate, the government is offering an enhanced Corporate Income Tax (CIT) Rebate and a CIT Rebate Cash Grant that deserve your attention. On top of that, two key tax exemption schemes—the Start-Up Tax Exemption (SUTE) and the Partial Tax Exemption (PTE), can significantly lower your tax bill. In this article, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know to make the most of these tax benefits.

1. Singapore’s Corporate Income Tax Rate: Simple and Flat at 17%

In Singapore, all companies whether they’re local businesses or foreign-owned, are generally taxed at a flat rate of 17% on their chargeable income. That chargeable income is what’s left after deducting tax-deductible expenses and allowable deductions from your total revenue.

While this flat corporate income tax rate might seem simple, many businesses don’t realise they could end up paying much less. Depending on your company’s structure and activities, various tax exemptions and rebates could significantly lower your effective tax rate.

With the right planning and awareness of available incentives, your business can reduce its tax bill and improve cash flow. It all starts with understanding how Singapore’s corporate income tax system really works.

2. Corporate Income Tax Rebate and CIT Rebate Cash Grant for YA 2025

In the Singapore Budget 2025, exciting news awaits businesses. Companies will benefit from a 50% Corporate Income Tax (CIT) Rebate on tax payable, capped at $40,000. On top of that, eligible smaller companies can receive a CIT Rebate Cash Grant of at least $2,000.

This is a golden opportunity, especially for growing businesses looking to optimise their tax obligations. With these incentives, companies can save significantly and refocus their resources on business development in 2025. To take advantage of these benefits, make sure your business meets the requirements and don’t miss out on this valuable support.

Who is eligible?

If your company is paying taxes in Singapore, you’re likely eligible for some great benefits. Whether you're a resident or not, you can apply for the CIT Rebate and Cash Grant. But there are a couple of key conditions.

First, your company must be active in 2024, meaning it’s carrying out trade or business. Additionally, you need to have at least one local employee, this includes Singapore citizens or Permanent Residents, but not shareholders who are also directors. These simple steps could put you in line for valuable savings on your corporate income tax, making it easier for your business to thrive in 2025.

What is Active Company Criteria?

To benefit from the CIT Rebate and Cash Grant, your company must meet certain active criteria. It cannot be dormant, meaning it should be actively conducting business in 2024. If your company is under liquidation or receivership, it will not qualify.

Additionally, companies that are in the process of amalgamation and have already been removed from ACRA’s register are ineligible. Essentially, if your company is still trading and fulfilling its obligations, it stands a good chance of taking advantage of these valuable tax incentives. Being mindful of these criteria ensures that you don't miss out on potential savings for your business.

When will you receive it?

In the coming months, your business could be receiving some welcome news. By the second quarter of 2025, IRAS will automatically apply the CIT Rebate and disburse the Cash Grant to eligible companies.

If your company qualifies through centralised hiring or secondment but hasn’t received the grant, don't worry you can still submit an appeal by 30 November 2025. The CIT Rebate is not taxable, so it won’t add to your tax burden. It applies only to income taxed at concessionary rates and does not cover income subject to final withholding tax. Stay tuned for this opportunity to reduce your corporate income tax liabilities.

3. Tax Exemption Schemes: Start-Up and Partial Tax Exemptions

These schemes are designed to encourage entrepreneurship and support local companies.

a. Tax Exemption Scheme for New Start-Ups (SUTE)

If you're a new business in Singapore, the Tax Exemption Scheme for New Start-Ups (SUTE) could be your ticket to valuable corporate income tax savings. For the first three years, your company can benefit from a 75% exemption on the first $100,000 of chargeable income, and 50% on the next $100,000.

To qualify, your company must be incorporated and tax-resident in Singapore, with fewer than 20 shareholders, and at least one individual holding 10% or more of ordinary shares. However, investment holding and property development companies are excluded.

Be mindful that IRAS is vigilant against misuse, with audits and penalties for any shell companies attempting to exploit the scheme.

b. Partial Tax Exemption Scheme (PTE)

If your company doesn’t qualify as a new start-up, there’s still a way to reduce your corporate income tax liability. The Partial Tax Exemption (PTE) scheme is designed to help. From YA 2020 onwards, this scheme offers significant relief: a 75% exemption on the first $10,000 of chargeable income and a 50% exemption on the next $190,000.

This means that even if you’re not a new business, you can still benefit from valuable tax savings. The PTE scheme is open to all companies, including those limited by guarantee. It’s a great opportunity to reduce your tax burden and keep more of your earnings.
